The Visionary - a futurEU Podcast

Season 2.

After an incredible first season, this second season focuses on better and more responsive policies for future generations of Europeans. It follows the topic of the second edition of our futurEU Competition:

The current crises facing the EU threaten to lead to more socio-economically vulnerable and Eu-alienated futurEU generations.

What bold and visionary policy would you propose to address EU action oriented to next generations ? How would your vision make the EU more responsive and appealing to their needs?

In this season let our amazing Cecilia take you on a journey with inspiring guests.

Young Europeans are consistently more in favour of deeper European integration than other demographics. However, this support might wane in times of crisis. Economic crises generally hit young people the hardest by shutting them off from the labour market, limiting opportunities for development and creating fertile terrain for frustration and disillusionment with the EU. In this episode, we discuss the influence of an economic crisis (i.e., in 2008 and 2020) in determining the level of support for the EU among the youth, and whether policies can contain that.

Guests: Gnath Katharina, Senior Project Manager, Bertelsmann Stiftung

Host: Cecilia Trasi

Editor: Cecilia Trasi

Everywhere in Europe, fewer and fewer citizens decide to join parties. Often, young people do not engage in formal, institutional processes and the lack of representation contributes to further disenfranchisement. However, these channels are critical to participate in decision-making in our democracies, especially in times of crisis. In this episode, we discuss the obstacles that prevent young people from joining party politics in Europe, and how to overcome them.

Guests: Damian Boeselager - MEP, Co-founder Volt Europa

Host: Cecilia Trasi

Young people inform themselves and participate in politics in different ways compared to previous generations. Often European policymakers fail to communicate effectively with them, with consequences for levels of trust in the EU. In this episode, we discuss how the EU shall pay attention to young people and seek new channels to design and implement policies that reflect the priorities and needs of future generations.

Guests: Elena Schulz-Ruhtenberg & Neslihan Altun

Season 1.

The first season of the The Visionary t focused on the topic of the first-ever futurEU Competition.

Our incredible guests were asked to propose a treaty reform. In this visionary scenario, they had carte blanche to propose a major treaty reform to be negotiated at a visionary intergovernmental conference.

Apart from this challenging task, you can listen in to discover our guests' dream occupation as children, what they consider the most difficult thing to explain about the EU, and how they got into the topic.
