futurEU Bundestag Visit
Are you passionate about European politics and eager to dive deeper into the heart of Germany's political landscape? We have an exciting opportunity just for you!
Join us on our second captivating journey to the Bundestag, Germany's federal parliament, on April 11th at 5:00 PM. This isn't just any visit; it's a chance to engage with SPD Member of Parliament Armand Zorn, an influential figure who plays a pivotal role as Deputy Member of the Committee for European Affairs. Armand also contributes his expertise to the Committee for Digital Affairs, the Finance Committee, and the Parliamentary Advisory Council on Sustainable Development. He also teaches an elective in our own Hertie School and held last year’s graduation keynote speech!
But that's not all – following our insightful dialogue with Armand, we are planning a visit to the Bundestag dome: the icing on the cake! Climbing up the dome, you'll witness breathtaking views of Berlin while pondering the future of Europe.
Please do come prepared with a few good questions, as we will be a rather small and personal round of 20 people such that hopefully everyone can ask a question. The registration for this event already took place.
In case you have any questions, please get in touch with us over email (info@futureu-initiative.org), instagram or whatsapp.
futurEU Brussels Visit 2024
Do you want to travel to Brussels, visit the engine rooms of the European Union and meet with policy-makers? futurEU is organizing a three-day visit from 3-5 April 2024 to Brussels for Hertie School students. We plan to visit the European Parliament and meet with MEP Damian Boeselager, visit a member state permanent representation, interests groups, a think tank and public affairs firms. We aim at putting students in contact with young professionals (especially Hertie Alumni!) that shape the Brussels bubble, by hearing from these people first-hand about their work and put a face on the actors that collectively forge European politics. For some, this trip may even inspire a professional path in EU policy.
Participants will likely travel to Brussels by night train (European Sleeper) and stay at a hostel with easy access to Brussels’ European Quarter. We aim to raise additional funds, such that futurEU would subsidize the majority of the costs of transport and accommodation (approximately €250). Meals and transport locally will be at participants’ own expense. The total group size will likely be 15, as we want to have a small-scale, intimate atmosphere in the discussions. If the number of applications exceeds the number of available spots, we will select participants based on brief motivation. The final application deadline is January 7th 2024, but we recommend applying early. Please apply through this form and find more detailed information in our flyer. We look forward to your application and to visiting Brussels with you!
Mentoring Session Diplomacy
futurEU is thrilled to welcome Hertie Alumnus Tim Nover (MPP 2006-2008) back to campus! He will join us on March 5th for a mentoring session, offering a great opportunity for students interested in diplomacy to meet a practitioner.
Tim previously worked as Political Assistant to the Secretary General at the EEAS, the EU’s diplomatic service. He is currently a diplomat at the German foreign office, the Auswärtiges Amt. With diplomatic experience at both the EU and national level, Tim can share invaluable insights into navigating the complexities of international relations. Don't miss this chance to engage with a seasoned professional in the field!

Europe at the crossroads: The economic implications of climate action

Green and powerful: The road towards sustainable growth and a stronger Europe
The European Union has committed itself to becoming the first net zero continent by 2050. But successful implementation is still far from certain, and with the EU elections coming up in 2024, parts of Europe’s green strategy are being re-thought. While the EU has so far mostly focussed on carbon pricing, it is now challenged to follow the US and China in designing a green industrial policy to keep up in the global race for clean technologies. At the same time, the EU must find ways to increase the speed of the green energy transition, keep the burden for citizens and companies as low as possible, and maintain broad societal support for ambitious climate measures.
